The infrastructure of eCloud

Beneath your virtual machines lies a clustered platform of enterprise-grade hardware, redundant storage, and a segmented network, housed in professional data centers in Belgium. A shared platform, but with guaranteed resources.

Does this sound familiar?

Three situations we frequently encounter at organizations that currently run their own infrastructure or use a large provider.

Hardware cycles determine  budget

An investment round every four to five years, accompanied by the inevitable debate about oversizing: you purchase capacity intended for the end of the cycle, yet pay for it from day one.

No overview of the architecture

With a major provider, you get capacity but no visibility into the underlying architecture. Yet, in the event of a performance issue or an audit inquiry, that is precisely what you need.

Shared computing power

In a fully shared environment, the load generated by another customer can affect your applications. This is difficult to diagnose and even harder to explain to your users.

How eCloud is built

Computing power: A redundant cluster of enterprise-grade servers from top-tier brands. If a node fails, the HA manager restarts the affected virtual machines on the remaining nodes.

CPU, RAM, and storage are allocated for your environment. Because this allocation takes place at the virtual machine level rather than the physical host level, you can scale up in a targeted manner.

Storage: The storage layer is redundant and offered in tiers, allowing you to select the most appropriate option for each workload. A database with heavy I/O requirements needs different characteristics than a file server or an archive. Snapshots and thin provisioning are available at the platform level.

Network: The network is designed with redundancy and segmented by customer, featuring dedicated own network segments and address spaces that are isolated from other environments within the platform. Firewalling is implemented at the environment level and, if desired, at the virtual machine level. Various options are available for connecting to your own locations, ranging from site-to-site VPNs to dedicated connectivity.

Geo-redundant: If your workload is mission-critical, we can even offer a geo-redundant eCloud configuration: a stretched setup spanning two autonomous data centers that automatically fails over from one to the other in the event of an outage.

Where your infrastructure is physically located

Our data centers

Your environment runs in professional data centers in Belgium, featuring the facilities you expect from a data center: redundant power supply, cooling, fire protection, and physical access control.

We handle the hardware, including replacement and lifecycle management. Our presence at multiple locations enables geographic distribution.

This is relevant for organizations that wish to spread their risks and avoid complete reliance on a single location. Combined with a second eCloud location, it is even possible to establish a geographically redundant infrastructure model.

Why choose Epact as your partner?

What sets us apart from other private cloud providers?

Premium brands without the price tag

We select high-quality hardware but keep costs under control by critically evaluating suppliers and shifting more intelligence to the software layer.

One provider for the full stack

Data center, hardware, storage, network, and hypervisor: everything managed by the same team. You don’t have to figure out whether a problem lies with the storage vendors, the network provider, or the virtualization partner.

Active capacity monitoring

Capacity utilization is actively monitored so that expansion is a planned decision rather than an emergency.

How do we size your environment?

The architecture of your environment is determined during the sizing phase, and that is the step that dictates the rest of the process.

1

Sizing

We look at your actual usage over a representative period, including month-end and quarter-end closing processe. Not at the specifications of your current machines, which were often determined years ago based on a peak that never actually occurred.
2

Tiering per workload

Not every application requires the same storage performance, redundancy, or availability. We work together to determine what goes where, so you don't pay for the most expensive tier for everything.
3

Room for growth

We factor your projected growth into the design, but you don't pay today for capacity you'll need in three years. Scaling up is done on a per-virtual-machine basis.
