The number of cyber attacks has grown enormously in recent years. Hamann International Logistics therefore decided to change its backup strategy and, in addition to online backups, also maintain off-site backups to protect against ransomware.

Hamann International Logistics is a leading logistics service provider with offices in Belgium and Germany. The family business, founded in 1964, grew into an international player offering transport, warehousing and supply chain solutions for various sectors. With a focus on reliability, flexibility and customer focus, Hamann daily supports companies across Europe in moving their goods efficiently and safely.

Challenge

Hamann International Logistics wanted to better protect itself against cyber attacks and data loss and chose to adjust its backup strategy. The 3-2-1 backup rule was used as a basis for this. To put that into practice, the company had to find a partner who could help them with off-site backups.

When looking for new off-site backups, it was clear that they needed to be integrated with the existing Veeam backup solution. In addition, the solution also had to be reliable, have European representation and be able to propose a predictable pricing model. The latter was important in case a major restore had to be performed.

Through our years of cooperation with Epact, we were confident that they would provide us with the best possible solution.
Peter De Groote, ICT Infrastructure Manager at Hamann International Logistics

Solution

Epact chose the Zero-Effort Server Back-Up solution, where offline backups are stored in the Wasabi Cloud. If the online backup infrastructure were to be infected from outside, Hamann International Logistics can now fall back on offline backups at Wasabi. This way, important business functions can be up and running in a minimu amount of time, so that the business feels as little impact as possible.

Since the latest Veeam & Wasabi update, offline backups have also been made immutable by the Object Lock Feature. This means that backups can no longer be changed, overwritten or deleted for a specified period of time.

“I've already done a price comparison with direct competitors and Wasabi always came out as the best,” says Peter De Groote. “They offer a transparent pricing model where there are no surprises. You decide in advance how much Terabyte you want to purchase and you immediately know the corresponding price per month.”

Why Epact?

Hamann International Logistics has been working closely with Cronos, and Epact in particular, since 2007.

“Right from the start, the collaboration felt perfect,” says Peter De Groote. “With Epact, we have found a very reliable partner who responds quickly when we have questions. I sometimes get asked internally what should happen if our IT fails. The answer is very simple: I trust the experts at Epact. They are very involved and will do everything they can to get us back on track soon. They know our business and our IT environment perfectly, which ensures that they can cope with this without any problems.”
